Every now and then, we all need a confidence booster, an attitude adjustment or maybe a mindset shift.
Today, I'm sharing Dr. Cherie Carter-Scott's "Ten Rules For Being Human."
These 10 simple, yet powerful truths might be just the tool you need to ignite that boost, adjustment or shift!
Instead of sharing my thoughts, I want to give you the opportunity to explore your own:
The Rules for Being Human
1. You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours as long as you live. How you take care of it or fail to take care of it can make an enormous difference in the quality of your life.
2. You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time school called LIFE. Each day, you will be presented with opportunities to learn what you need to know.
3. There are no mistakes — only lessons. Growth is a process of trial and error and experimentation. You can learn as much from failure as you can from success.
4. A lesson is repeated until it is learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it. When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.
5. Learning lessons does not end. There is no stage of life that does not contain some lessons.
6. "There" is no better than "here". When your "there" has become a "here", you will obtain another "there" that will again look better than your "here".
7. Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects something you love or hate about yourself.
8. What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the tools and resources you need.
9. The answers lie within you. The solutions to all of life's problems lie within your grasp. All you need to do is ask, look, listen, and trust.
10. You will forget all this!

Now, time for those Coaching Questions.
If writing your answers would help you process your thoughts, grab a journal or some notebook paper. You can also sit and think, without writing.
Either way, I suggest finding a quiet spot where you won't be interrupted for the next several minutes and ponder these two Coaching Questions:
1. Which Rule stood out the most, for you? And what about that particular Rule made an impact?
2. How can applying this one Rule to a current challenge help you find more ease?
You can certainly continue to answer these 2 questions about the other 9 Rules, however I encourage you to start with just the 1 Rule that you really felt in you heart or gut.
See what comes up for you and give yourself time to ponder. Explore new bits of awareness or new perspectives that awaken within you.
And carry that new wisdom with you into tomorrow. (ie: try not to read this today and forget it tomorrow, because these Rules + your wisdom have potential to ignite positive change).
I have "The Rules for Being Human" printed and posted on the bulletin board in my office.
When I'm struggling in some way, I can simply look to the Rules and remind myself:
Find your own way to remember, engage with and find meaning in the Rules.
Whatever you do, see Rule #10.
Come back when you need to and remember again.
