MY FAVORITE PERSONAL GROWTH BOOKS

The Success Principles

by Jack Canfield

The Success Principles is full of inspiration & motivation. I've dog-eared more pages in this book than any other I own. I read this 400+page jewel slowly and over a long period of time, savoring the enormous amount of practical, tactical and applicable wisdom. I'd sum it up in two words- LIFE CHANGING!

(it's also my favorite gift for new grads)

The Untethered Soul

by Michael A. Singer

The Untethered Soul is a beautiful book about awakening the "seat of the soul." Michael Singer gets deeply philosophical about staying "open", yet he presents abstract thoughts and concepts in the most simple and unpretentious way. My favorite phrase is "relax & release."

(fun fact- this book is on Tony Robbin's short list of favorite books)

Man's Search for Ultimate Meaning

by Viktor E. Frankl. M.D., Ph.D.

Mans Search for Ultimate Meaning is a deeply philosophical work of non-fiction, based of the author's experience in a Nazi concentration camp. Dr. Frankl reflects on his personal experiences and shares his observations & conclusions about the human behaviors that greatly influenced one's chance of survival. This book has had a significant impact on how I view the power of choice.

Big Magic

by Elizabeth Gilbert

Big Magic inspired me to embrace, nurture and celebrate my creative genius! In every wisdom-filled chapter, her writing oozes passion, excitement and energy- qualities I greatly admire and aspire to embody.

(i highly recommend this book to anyone feeling like they're in a creative slump)

Grit

by Angela Duckworth

Grit is full of intriguing information (facts, statistics, studies) about the power of perseverance and factors that influence the strength of this quality in a person. I was fascinated to learn that, though one's level of grit is primarily established during the formative, childhood years, one can change their habits and still increase their grittiness as an adult.

FOOD, What the Heck Should We Eat

by Mark Hyman, M.D.

Food is an incredible resource for anyone wanting to detox, get healthier and use food as medicine. Dr. Hyman is a Functional Medicine Doctor who delivers loads of valuable information, along with simple facts to back up every claim. I refer to his "eat/don't eat" lists regularly to help me stay on track to achieving my goal of living to be 103yrs old!

""Simply put: Food is the doorway to living well and loving well-and to fixing much of what's wrong with our world today.""

Mark Hyman, M.D.
Food, What the Heck Should We Eat

""...everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms- to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way.""

Viktor E. Frankl, M.D., Ph.D.
Man's Search for Ultimate Meaning

""Even more than the effort a gritty person puts in on a single day, what matters is that they wake up the next day, and the next, ready to get on that treadmill and keep going.""

Angela Duckworth
Grit

""It has taken me years to learn this, but it does seem to be the case that if I am not actively creating something, then I am probably actively destroying something (myself, a relationship, or my own peace of mind).""

Elizabeth Gilbert
Big Magic

""It is time to stop looking outside yourself for the answers to why you haven't created the life and results you want, for it is you who creates the quality of life you lead and the results you produce.""

Jack Canfield
The Success Principles

""Eventually you will see that the real cause of problems is not life itself. It's the commotion the mind makes about life that really causes problems.""

Michael A. Singer
The Untethered Soul

MY FAVORITE PROFESSIONAL GROWTH BOOKS

Traction

by Gino Wickman

Traction is an Entrepreneurial MBA in book form. In 2016, I considered shutting down my business. A friend told me about Traction, and that recommendation saved me and my business. The system is thorough and knowledge-rich. With determination and focus, anyone can self-implement. As a result of Traction, I moved forward with an increase in confidence, a renewed commitment to my business and a clear vision for my future.

Profit First

by Mike Michalowicz

Profit First appeared in a random Amazon search for "cash flow management system." It was 2017, and I was struggling to pay myself during another low-cash summer season for my floral design & event production business, Branching Out Events. I credit Mike's straight-forward, easy to implement and easy to follow system for the financial stability of my event-based business, even amidst a global pandemic.

Getting Things Done

by David Allen

Getting Things Done is a superb system for managing your to-do list. David Allen created a GTDĀ flow chart to help youĀ organizeĀ theĀ content and information that can easily overwhelm your inbox, your mailbox and your head-space.Ā I equally enjoyed reading about theĀ psychological impact that being organized has on one's productivity AND mindset.Ā

(search "how to implement GTD" on You Tube for some FAB videos)

Essentialism

by Greg McKeown

Essentialism is about "the disciplined pursuit of less." For an Entrepreneur, this book provided valuable insight into how to discern what matters most- both personally and professionally. McKeown also speaks to the power of saying "no" and setting boundaries for yourself, in order to enjoy a better quality of life. After reading this book, I definitely felt more confident in celebrating JOMO (the joy of missing out).

The One Thing

by Gary Keller & Jay Papsan

The One Thing is co-authored by Gary Keller, the founder of Keller Williams Real Estate (a guy who knows the stress and overwhelm associated with entrepreneurship). Keller's secret daily question is "What's the ONE Thing I can do today for [whatever you want] such that by doing it everything else will be easier or unnecessary?" Dive into this book to read more about this powerful question- which I ask myself regularly!

The Total Money Makeover

by Dave Ramsey

The Total Money Makeover outlines a straight-shooting, no-nonsense approach to money management. I've confessed that I lacked fiscal responsibility for most of my life (until about age 40). Thanks to Dave Ramsey and his XM Radio program, I learned simple steps toward financial freedom and confidence!

(my favorite part of his radio program is the "debt-free scream!")

""To achieve an extraordinary result you must choose what matters most and give it all the time it demands.""

Gary Keller & Jay Papasan
The One Thing

""We need to transform all the "stuff" we've attracted and accumulated into a clear inventory of meaningful actions, projects, and usable information.""

David Allen
Getting Things Done

""The truth is that before you can grow, you'll need to take a leap of faith.""

Gino Wickman
Traction

""Profit must be baked into your business. Every day, every transaction, every moment. Profit I not an event. Profit is a habit.""

Mike Michalowicz
Profit First

""If you live like no-one else, later you can live like no-one else.""

Dave Ramsey
The Total Money Makeover

""Essentialism is a disciplined, systematic approach for determining where your highest point of contribution lies, then making execution of those things almost effortless.""

Greg McKeown
